What a boiler replacement actually costs in Ireland
A straight breakdown of what drives the price of a new gas boiler — and where the cheap quotes cut corners.
Most boiler quotes look similar on the surface and differ enormously underneath. The headline number is only part of the story.
What is actually in the price
The boiler itself is rarely the biggest variable. Labour, flueing, gas supply pipework, a system flush, a magnetic filter, controls and the RGI certification all move the number. A quote that omits a system flush and a filter on an older system is not cheaper — it is incomplete, and it will usually shorten the life of the new appliance.
Why like-for-like swaps still need survey work
Even where the new boiler sits in the same place, gas supply sizing, condensate routing and flue termination distances all have to be checked against current standards. An installer who quotes without seeing the property is guessing.
Grants
There is no SEAI grant for replacing a gas boiler with another gas boiler. There is a grant for heating controls, and there are grants for insulation, windows, doors, solar and heat pumps. If a quote implies a boiler swap is grant-funded, ask exactly which scheme is being claimed.
What to ask for in writing
Ask for the boiler make and model, the warranty length and what keeps it valid, whether a flush and filter are included, what controls are fitted, and confirmation that the installer is RGI registered and will issue a Declaration of Conformance.
